Query: Private Cemetery in Wood County

I am looking for information on old private cemeteries in Wood County.

Growing up I visited my grandfathers nephew, Oneal Vance, in Hawkins often. My grandfather was Stephen Grady Myers. Oneal often took us to cemeteries and showed us where familly members were buried. One day he took us to one close to his home in Hawkins that was on someones private land. He referred to it as the “Redlands”?

It was a very small cemetery and my grandfather, Johnny A. Meyers, was buried there. I do have a picture of the tombstone and his last name is mispelled.

I would like to know if there is any listings of such cemeteries available to help us locate it again. Any information you could give me or any clues would be a great help.

Thank you for your help.

  1. I’m confused by your query. Do you have two grandfathers, one named Stephen Grady Myers and another named Johnny A. Meyers?

If you can tell us what year they were born and/or died I might be able to find more information, but the best place I’ve found for cemeteries is FindAGrave.com. I see one of your grandfathers, Stephen Grady Myers, buried near you in Weatherford. http://goo.gl/b3vmM

I found the small cemetery of less than a few dozen graves of my family on FindAGrave.com, the Reed Family cemetery in what used to be the town of Pine Mills. http://goo.gl/cBFpP

  2. The cemetery that you are looking for is the Gentry Cemetery located at the end of CR 2693. There are 6 Myers that are interred there. These are a J A Myers (1836-1903) (sp Meyers on headstone), Mary M Myers (1850-1888), Ethelle Myers (1894-1908), Mary Delphia Myers (1908-1908), Rebar Myers (1912-1912) and James Wesley Myers (1918-1918).

This is the link to Find A Grave that has each memorial listed. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=3783

Also I was told that a William Wesley (1878-1930) and Beulah Ann Parker (1889-1968) Myers was buried in the area of Redland community on their land but later they were moved to the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery on Hwy 37 between Mineola and Quitman. They are also listed on Find A Grave. This was reported by their daughter, Valarie Myers Blackburn.

    Hope this helps
