Query: McWhirter

I am seeking information about the death of Jasper Green McWhirter b.1868 AL Marion Co and died 1902 Wood Co.TX as a result of walking on the RR tracks. He left 6 children to be reared by his sister, Mary Caroline McWhirter Harbin and spouse, George Washington Harbin.
Jasper Green’s wife, Mary Silvania Harper Tucker, had died in 1901 Wood Co.TX.
I would greatly appreciate more information on the subject family.
I will remit or donate for the information.
They should be in the Wood Co.Quitman Tx cemetery records.

  1. Louise, I would love to be able to help you, but this week will not be the time as I am going out of town.
Yes, my husband’s grandfather and great grandfather helped out with keeping these kids. I have a photo of all of them along with the Harbin’s. TTULater. Dorothy
Yes, I will look up all I can upon my returning home.

  2. thank you so much, I have several questions that i would love to reach someone that can answer. that is, if they can be answered.
Does Jasper Green have a grave marker. What month and day was he hit by the train while walking?
Are there any Rail Road records?
Does Mary Silvania Tucker have a grave marker?
Jasper Greens sister, Nancy Ann Mcwhirter Miles’s month, day, of birth, and month and day of death. Her grave marker in the cemetery in Marion Co.AL only gives year of birth, 1865 and year of death, which was 1892. There is an infant buried beside her. The familly says she died in childbirth.
George Washington Miles carried his 2 small children and a neice to Wood Co. Tx to visit Jasper Green and family. While he was there, one of his children and the neice died and are buried in Wood Co.Tx. Do you know where they are buried. I believe Mary Caroline would have known because she did not die until 1934.
I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
    Many thanks for you reply.

  3. Dorothy,

  4. Mary, I was told by my grandparents that Jasper was crushed between two cars while working on the railroad. My grandfather was James Edgar Mcwhirter, who was raised by the Harbins. I think he was buried in Sharon cemetery ,between winnsboro and Quitman.
