Kimberly Powell of About.com: Genealogy issued a challenge to her readers ito use this time of year to consider volunteering to the larger genealogy community in a number of different ways which you can read about on her blog at http://genealogy.about.com/b/2009/12/15/giving-back-to-the-genealogy-community.htm.
The holidays are always a very busy time of year, but in the spirit of giving I challenge each of you to find a little extra time this month to give something back to the genealogical community.
Local opportunities for volunteering at the Wood County Genealogical Society are also available. They include being available to help researchers on certain days and times or by phone call as needed at our society’s genealogy research center at the Quitman library, performing research center library’s tasks including re-shelving books to getting new books ready for use in the library and related tasks of library maintenance or working on lookup requests, society jobs such as record keeping and organization, and research projects extracting records and making them available for use, and others.
You can likely name the time and hours to fit your schedule. If you are interested, contact one of the officers (see list at https://woodtxgene.com/contact-us/) or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. All suggestions will be passed along to the society president.
