James Edwards of De Leon, TX. is searching for information on his great grandfather, Thomas Emmett Bailey, born in Wood County, TX., 13 November, 1884. “I have found that Thomas had at least 1 sister, Sally Annie Bailey born 1876 in Texas, not sure where. I know that Thomas lived in Anderson Co., Precinct 1 and was a foreman at the Palestine Cole mine according to the 1930 census. I am wondering if Wood County has birth records back to this date. I was wondering if you might be able to point me in the right direction as where to look or who to contact for help.”
Any member who thinks they can help James, please reply below to this posting and to James at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Quitman Public Librarian Delene DELAROSA recently presented the Wood County Commissioners Court a request to in crease the county’s support of the Quitman library from $7,000 yearly to $25,00. The request was from Quitman Mayor Jerry EDWARDS, and he and DelaRosa appeared before the court.
She pointed out that 70 percent of those patrons using the library live in the county outside of Quitman. County residents showing proof of residence and a photo ID can receive a library card at the library at no charge.
