I am looking for information on John Newton Stewart (born 1847) who was married to Sarah Elizabeth Jane (Sally) Davis (born 1856, died 1946). They were married in Wood, TX on December 25, 1879. I am particularly interested in John’s specific birth date and date of death and information on his parents and/or siblings. Information on Sarah Davis is also appreciated.

I AM SO VERY HAPPY TODAY!!! I had received a copy of my gr.grandfather and gr.grandmother’s cemetery markers but had never been able to find them in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, in Wood Co, TX. Well, today, I FOUND THEM.
W. B. Davis, was a CSA veteran, therefore, since I have found it, it won’t be necessary for me to request a replacement marker, however, there are no dates, any suggestions as to how I may get the dates attached to the marker.
Thanks, Dorothy Hays Harbin,
Note: Dorothy originally sent this email to us on May, 16, 2011. She shared this also with us at our monthly meeting on that evening so that we were all able to be excited for her then.

Nina DAVIS writes that she is “looking for information on Catherine MCGEE (nee GARRETT), born abt 1858, died abt 1898.
“The only thing I know for sure regarding her death date is that she died after 1893. Her last child, Granville MCGEE, was born that year. She’s in the 1880 Census in Quitman married to Gus MCGEE.
“What I’m hoping to find/verify are her parents. They may have been Thomas and Hannah GARRETT but I’m not sure. Burial records (it’s early for standardized death records, but you never know), tax rolls, marriage certificates, etc. She had at least two siblings, Thomas and Caroline.
“Any other information on the family would be great as well. Family history says her mother was white and father black, so any racial designation may be of interest.
“More than willing to pay for any copies and postage, but if anyone can just point the way to records, I can schedule a trip down.”
