Query: Malone

I am trying to figure out some family history and my grandfather claimed to be born in Quitman, Texas. The date that he claims is Jan 5th, 1889, and his name is Charles Franklyn Malone. If you would be willing to look this information up and let me know any related information myself and my family would greatly appreciate it.

Query: Long

I am looking for information. I am not sure where and who to ask. I am fairly new to genealogy. My ancestor, Robert Long married Ada Adams, 1884 in Wood County. I found them in 1900 Census in Corsicana, Texas. I found city directory 1901, listing them there. In 1910 Census, Ada Long is listed living in Wood county with her mother. Ada is listed as widow. Recently I made a trip to Corsicana and researched city directories and found nothing, cemetery records and death records( 1904-) and found nothing. So I thought maybe they had traveled to Wood county. Are there city directories from 1901 – on and cemetery records in the Quitman library? Could I find death records in the county clerk’s office that far back? Ada died in 1911 and is buried in Kay Cemetery, Hawkins, Wood, Texas. There are 36 interments and they are all listed. Robert is not there. Can you give me any ideas where to look now? I appreciate any information or help.

Query: Back Issue of Newsletter

My name is Ronda Sanders, and I am the Genealogy & Local History Librarian for the Hall County Library System in Gainesville, GA. I am currently gathering research material for a program about conducting genealogy research at your local cemetery. I saw where your organization published an article titled “How not to conduct a cemetery research trip” in the October 2006 newsletter. I am hoping you have an archives of your past newsletters. How would I go about obtaining a copy of this article?

Query: Siceluff

My name is David Hull, and I am affiliated with the Kirkpatrick Family Archive in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We are doing research on Mary Julia Siceluff whose mother, Sarah (Ritchie) Siceluff (later Hedrick) was married to Samuel Siceluff. Apparently, the Siceluff family was familiar with the Haines family as well in the area.

I am going to be visiting Quitman with the hope of researching the various outlets available for ascertaining as much genealogical information as possible in a couple of days. Would you advise me regarding court records, land grants, and locating other historical documents? Any other locations you might recommend? I appreciate your time and assistance greatly.

Query: Montgomery

My name is Regina Montgomery. I am doing research on the Montgomery family. Do you have access to probate records or death certificates on microfiche for Jack and Hester Montgomery?

According to the 1880 Federal Census Jack and Hester Montgomery settled in Precinct 1, Wood County, with their seven children. Jack owned his farm.

I believe Jack died between 1900 and 1910 because Hester is noted as a widow on the 1910 Federal Census. She is accounted for on the 1920 Census (age 77).

Thank you,

Regina Montgomery <regmontr@aol.com>

Query: Allison

We are searching for the family of our great grandfather, John R. Allison b. 1844 or 45 in PA by his account on the 1880 US census). John R. seems to have been consistent in the use of the middle initial R.
John R. probably came to Texas sometime after 1870. According to 1880 US census he’s living in Precinct 5 of Wood Co., Texas with wife Mary Catherine (Evans) and baby, Annie B. Allison. His occupation is “sawyer”. In the same year we find John R. in an agricultural census, same neighborhood.
According to the US Appointment of Postmasters he is postmaster in Hawkins, Wood County in 1892.We have found no record of him after this. His wife appears to have died in 1884 and his children are living with maternal aunts in Alvord, Wise Co. in 1900 (US census).
What we would like to find is confirmation of his life previous to this and to know who his parents were. We have found a John R. Allison with a matching birthdate in the 1850 and 1870 US censuses of Greencastle, Franklin, PA and some military records indicating he was at Big Wichita, Texas.
What we are wondering is if Wood County might hold some records that can help us flesh out his life and help us locate him and his family in Pennsylvania with some certainty. A big break through would be great and every little bit helps flesh out the picture.
Thanks so much,
Stella Allison <stellaallison@yahoo.com>

Query: Bradley

I am seeking a newspaper article that may give the circumstances and complete death date of William David Bradley, Sr. who was supposedly killed in a gun fight in May 1902 possibly around Mineola, TX. I know that his family was listed on the 1900 Van Zandt County, TX., census. I would appreciate any help or suggestions in solving this mystery.
Thanks so much,
Joyce R. Bradley <links2ms@hotmail.com>

Query: Rushing

I am trying to find a marriage record for a RUSHING, male first name unknown, to a HORN, NAOMA/NAOMI. This marriage would have been around 1921. Could you please tell me if the Wood County marriages are online anywhere?
Thank you,
Ruby Wallace <rg1935@vzinet.com>
