Members Fees Due & September Meeting Next Monday

Brief Reminder: There are only three more days until our September 2012-13 Kick-off Meeting Monday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library.

It’s a covered dish meal greeting meeting, and we would like to have a large turnout and see you all. It seems ages since our last get-together in June. This is also one of our two yearly business meetings.

Also, if you haven’t mailed in your 2012-13 membership fee ($25 a member no matter how many in a household), you can pay at the meeting Monday or still drop in the mail if you live too far away to attend Monday. The address is Treasurer, Wood County Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 832, Quitman, Texas 75783.

Two Updates About Our September 2012 Meeting

1. A correction on the September meeting email:  Deason, my home phone # is 903-967-3142.   P.S.. I will keep a list of what people are bringing. —  Sally

2. 2012-13 society year dues are payable by the September meeting. You can either pay at the meeting September 17 or mail to: Treasurer, Wood County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 832, Quitman, Texas 75783. Reminder: dues for all members are $25 a year. There is no extra amount for a multiple-member household, but please let us know if you are registering just for yourself or multiple household members in your membership fee.

Membership Fees May Be Mailed In Starting Now

Membership fees for the 2012-13 Wood County Genealogical Society year are due by September 17; however, you may start mailing in your membership fee starting now.

As a reminder, the society voted last year for the first fee increase in over a decade to $25.00 a member or a multi-member family. There is no additional charge for a second or more members in the same household as there was in the past.

You may make your check or money order to Wood County Genealogical Society and mail it to Treasurer, Wood County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 832, Quitman, Texas 75783 or pay at the regular society meeting Sept. 17.

Receipt of your dues prior to the meeting will make it possible for the treasurer to make an up-to-date report of membership renewals at the business meeting that evening.

1950 Census Update

Mark your calendars. The countdown has begun to the release of the 1950 census in 2022.

Lots of Important WCGS Activities in the Next 7 Days

June is “bustin’ out all over” for area members of the Wood County, Texas Genealogical Society (WCGS) in the four-day period of this next weekend and Monday. Your participation is requested and needed at both MAJOR events.

1. A fundraiser garage sale to gather money for activities such as the next year’s subscription (at the Quitman Public Library) for Ancestry.com is Friday and Saturday, June 15-16 on the sidewalk in front of the library for the Highway 37 Garage Sale. We need (a) volunteers to set up starting at 8 a.m. and to work, visit, and have fun during the day (all or some of the time), (b) donations for the sale which you can bring with you or drop off or call a local member to pickup prior to Friday. (You can call Deason at 903-769-0792, email to wcgstx@gmail.com starting as soon as you see this if you need a donation pickup. He will call on others to help with the pickup).

2. A very special Everyone-Needs-ToAttend meeting of the Wood County Genealogical Society Monday evening, June 18, at the library starting at 6 p.m. with a social time with refreshments and a special To-Be-Revealed program (Don’t you just love a mystery?) which needs the attendance of all area members possible. Please make a special effort to attend. Also, no Peralta’s gathering before the meeting this time only.

You can expect multiple and more reminders this week. This is a special event! We need a  big turnout.

Special things are happening for the WCGS this week. Please help make it even more special by your attendance.
