Thanks for the help at the Mineola Memorial Library stop on the 2013 Wood County, Texas Genealogy Road Show to the following society members who braved the weather to be present: Mark Reid, Shirley Bates, Angela Low, Mary Ann Neiswanger, Shirley Patrick, and Deason Hunt.
An updated WCGSTX membership roster has been posted on the Members Only page which you can access at the top right link on this page. Please check to see if you are on the roster if you have paid your 2012-13 membership fee. If not, contact Secretary and membership Chairperson, Shirley Patrick at email@example.com. We will shortly be notifying members with email access of the new password, but the old password will work until you are so notified.

The spring road show to area libraries will also be discussed.

6:00 p.m. — Time to offer or seek help with genealogy for members and the general public and/or to go online and search databases. We meet at the Quitman Public Library.

The Wood County Genealogical Society will hold its annual Christmas party on the regular meeting night, Monday December 17, at 6 p.m. at the Shamburger Room at the Quitman Public Library. We are hoping for a large turn out from all out members who live close enough to drive in for the party. We would love to share this time with you and your spouse or other guests. There will not be a 5:30 p.m. gathering at Peralta’s that evening.
Members are reminded to bring finger foods to share with others. Plates, cups, napkins, ice, etc. will be furnished but you should bring your choice of drink.
A wrapped white elephant, gag gift, or “Mexican gift” exchange will take place so bring something that might bring giggles or guffaws when opened. A $5.00 to $15.00 limit is suggested, but if you’ve got something on hand that will work, that’s okay, too. When it’s your turn, you can either open a not-yet chosen gift or take one of those already opened. A three-time limit on taking any specific gift will be in effect. (Third person can’t be stolen from.)
Important: If you know local area members who do not get email or check the internet, please call them and let them know about the Christmas party.
New member Jan Droptini of Beaumont has shared her Taylor lineage with the society.
“My father, Ardoth Wayne Taylor, and my mother, Letha Hazel Hood Taylor, were born and raised in Wood County, Texas. Grandparents are Arch Thomas Taylor, Bonnie Faye Attaway Taylor, Henry Lawrence Hood, and Winnie Lee Farmer Hood. I knew all these people personally so I am confident of the relationship. I am relatively certain of the generations of my great-grandparents due to census records and other recollections. They are James Laurence Taylor, Lucinda Jane Robinson Taylor, Elias Franklin Attaway, Emma Francis Glen Attaway, William Berry Hood, Lillian Johnson Hood, Milton Wiley Farmer, and Lucretia “Creasy” Goolsby Farmer.“
Membership fees for the 2012-13 Wood County Genealogical Society year are due by September 17; however, you may start mailing in your membership fee starting now.
As a reminder, the society voted last year for the first fee increase in over a decade to $25.00 a member or a multi-member family. There is no additional charge for a second or more members in the same household as there was in the past.
You may make your check or money order to Wood County Genealogical Society and mail it to Treasurer, Wood County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 832, Quitman, Texas 75783 or pay at the regular society meeting Sept. 17.
Receipt of your dues prior to the meeting will make it possible for the treasurer to make an up-to-date report of membership renewals at the business meeting that evening.
