Query: Hood

I am looking for cemetery info and confirmation of date death of William Berry Hood and both 1st (Sarah Ann Orr Hood) and 2nd wife Lillian Johnson Hood.
William Berry Hood born 1847 Georgia, died? 1922 Wood County
Sarah Ann Orr Hood, born Georgia, died? 1880 Wood County
Lillian Johnson Hood unknown, believed married William 1881 in Wood County.
William, Sarah and children in 1880 census living in Wood County, nothing after however.
Many family members buried at Maple Springs Cemetery outside Newsome however on recent trip could not find these folks.
Thank you for any help.

  1. David, can you tell me who you are descended from? I have been told that William Berry Hood and Lillian Johnson Hood are my great-grandparents but I haven’t been able to confirm it. My grandfather is Henry Lawrence Hood. I found a couple of records while searching at the Clayton Gen Library in Houston and I am going to check them out with the Wood County clerk on Monday. I haven’t been to Maple Springs cemetery but I need to go there.

  2. Hi my grand mother was Allie Hood 1895/1938,
    G G father Dr. Charles Hood 1872/1937,
GG G father Wm Berry Hood 1847/1922? married twice to Sarah Orr 1851/1880 and Lillian Johnson. I have been unable to find any info on Lillian include B/D dates.

According to public trees on Ancesty, Wm Berry and Lillian had at least one son Henry Lawrence Hood 1885 Newsome TX/1963 Winnesboro TX. I believe he is burried at Symra Cemetery in Winnsboro, TX

I have not done any direct research on Henry Lawrence Hood like census.

Do you have any b/d dates or where Lillian was buried?

  3. Henry Lawrence Hood is indeed buried in Smyrna Cem. I have found a probate case filed in 1893 for minors H L & J W Hood in an index. I have requested a copy but it is only 2 pages so don’t know if I am going to find out much. It appears they were orphaned or abandoned around that time and might be the reason that I can’t find my grandfather anywhere in the 1900 census but he and my grandmother, Winnie, married in 1905 so seems like I should be able to find them in 1910. I haven’t as of yet. Same as you, I have found zero on Lillian Johnson. I am continuing to research and would appreciate anything that you can confirm on William Berry Hood. Jan

  4. Does anyone have any information on J E Godwin (or Goodwin) or wife, L T Godwin, (possibly Lillian) in Wood County in 1893? J E Godwin is the person who applied for guardianship of J W & H L Hood, boys noted as 11 & 10 years old. It states the father of the boys lived in Camp County at the time of his death (so prior to 1893). Father’s name is not noted but I believe that to be William Berry Hood.
