There’s no question that an enormous brick wall faces most African-American researchers because of the lack of readily available information especially in the lack of census records during the era of slavery.
Kimberly Powell of About.com Genealogy has listed her top ten online sites for African-American genealogy research at this link: http://genealogy.about.com/od/african_american/tp/best_sites.htm

Fayette County Genealogical Society
Invites you to attend!
FAMILY HISTORY FAIR 2011
Saturday October 22, 2011
9am to 4pm
Exhibit Hall
Fayette County Fairgrounds
You are invited to an upcoming family history fair in October. This will give visitors a chance to find out about their family trees while spotlighting resources many don’t know exists.
Whether you come as a visitor or plan to have a booth, we hope to see you there. There is no cost involved and all you need is a table, your booth supplies ( business cards, brochures, maps, literature, etc) to give to the public. Decorating your booth would be a great idea!
We would like to include you(r) group. This is a great way to get your name out there, sell your product and let the public know who and what you are about and at the same time helping us support cultural heritage. We advertise in over 30 newspapers to help spread the word. It is free to attend and there is no cost for a booth. Space is limited so book early.
This is for the whole community. Anybody, anywhere. It doesn’t matter what denomination they are.
Classes for beginners, family history buffs and everyone else in between will be offered at the one-day event.
