Microfiche/film Reader/Printer

Christmas came early to the Wood County Genealogical Society Research Center at the Quitman Public Library with the placement of a microfiche/microfilm reader with printer.

This gift to the Wood County Genealogical Society Research Center at the Quitman Public Library (QPL) was secured by QPL Director Delene DelaRosa of a Konica Minolta MS6000 MKII reader/printer system which had been donated by The Wood County Appraisal District to the City of Quitman which in turn was secured by Delarosa for the society to use in reading microfilm with the ability to print out desired microfilm pages. Thanks go to her and all those at the appraisal district and the City of Quitman.

The system also has the capability to be connected to the computer in the genealogy research center to save digital copy files of the pages. While searching for a carrier to facilitate the use of microfilm reels, numerous sites list the value of the system at between $4,000 and $8,000.

Its use will mean that the rolls of microfilm at the library can be searched and printed and/or saved as well as microfilm and microfiche available for local use secured in interlibrary loan. It is hoped that the roll film mechanism will be available in January.

While some of these things such as census are more and more available online, many will not be for years and many more never. This is a tool we can all use to help us with our distance researching.
